Making Client-to-Agent Linking Simple: A Step-by-Step Guide for Businesses

Whether you're engaging a new tax or BAS agent or providing extra authorization to your existing agent, the client-to-agent linking steps are crucial.
In this guide, we break down the process to make it easy for our clients.
Determine Your Access to Online Services for Business
Before diving into the client-to-agent linking steps, ascertain your access to Online Services for Business.
Do you have access to Online services for business?
Yes: Proceed to Step 3.
No: Move to Step 1.
Before You Start: Step 1 & 2 - Be the Principal Authority
To complete steps 1 and 2, you must be the principal authority – the person responsible for the business. If you're unsure of your role, check here to learn how to get started.
Step 1: Set up your Digital ID (myGovID)
Download the myGovID app from the App Store or Google, and follow the instructions to set up your myGovID.
Choose between a Strong myGovID or a Standard myGovID, depending on your verification documents.
Note: Your myGovID is unique to you and cannot be shared.
Step 2: Link your myGovID to your ABN
Link your myGovID to your Australian Business Number (ABN) using the Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM).
If you have a Strong myGovID, log in to RAM and follow the prompts.
If you have a standard myGovID you will need to get in touch with the Australian Taxation Office to complete this step.
Step 3: Log in to Online Services for Business
Use your myGovID to log in to Online Services for Business.
Step 4: Nominate Your Authorized Agent
To nominate your agent in Online Services for Business:
Select Profile, then Agent details.
In the Agent nominations feature, select Add.
On the Nominate agent screen, search for your agent using their registered agent number.
Select the agent you want to nominate.
Confirm agent details and complete the declaration.
Click Submit.
Your agent's details will now appear under Agent nominations.
Step 5: Inform Your Agent of the Nomination
It's crucial to notify your nominated agent since they won't receive an automated system notification. Agents have 28 days to accept the nomination. If additional time is needed, use the Extend feature within 28 days of the original nomination. Simply:
From the Agent nomination screen, select Extend.
Confirm agent details, delete if necessary, complete the declaration, and submit.
Inform your agent of the extension.
If a nomination expires, you'll need to submit a new one.
